Team of in-house dedicated professionals undertakes climate change activities like customer interaction & education, training, PIN / PCN / PDD preparation, sourcing of buyers, CER commercialization, advise on consents, assistance in implementation of MVP, validation, negotiation and legal aspects, etc.
The Kyoto Protocol (KP) was signed in 1997 to tackle climate change by reducing global emissions of the greenhouse gases (GHGs). The principle of KP is that wherever in the World GHGs are emitted, the impact on the climate will be same. As per the KP, developed countries (called as Annex I countries) have emission reduction targets to achieve in certain time frame. These targets can be achieved with own efforts or through trading of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) generated from various environment friendly projects, in developing countries (called as non Annex I countries). Trading means paying someone to reduce equivalent CO2 in the atmosphere by the same amount that your activities add. In this way, you can ‘neutralize’ or ‘balance’ the equivalent CO2 added by your activities.
The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is one of the two project-based flexible mechanisms of the KP. These mechanisms are designed to make it easier and cheaper for industrialized countries to meet the GHG emission reduction targets that they agreed to under the Protocol. The CDM is also mandated to assist developing countries in achieving sustainable development.
In addition to the demand for CERs, there is limited but ongoing demand for Verified Emission Reductions (VERs). These reductions cannot be used for compliance under KP or European Emission Trading Scheme; however, there is a growing voluntary market where companies, organization and individuals are choosing to offset the GHGs associated with a particular activity. As this is a voluntary market, the buyer and seller agree how the reductions are measured, verified and delivered. This is preferred option to trade emission reductions from very small-scale projects.
